A Conversation with Kim Coles & Deborah Owens

Kim: Hi everyone, I am so happy to be here today. I want to welcome everyone to
this sacred space. A safe and brave space powered by all of us in this room. We all
know the statistics about Black women as we are the most educated demographic
in the country and yet…we have the lowest accumulated wealth in the country; and

we all know there are several reasons why this is the case. Some of out of our
control but a lot within our control---but today we are will not be talking about
              statistics.

Today we are going to be vulnerable and share our stories, without shame but to
empower one another. This is our Sister to Sister talk. So, I will begin, share my
              journey… {Kim shares her journey to financial loss and freedom}

              Kim’s Lead-In Question to Debra

              • Deborah, I know my story is not unusual, along the way I have identified some

things that I could have handled differently, what are your thoughts?

              • Ok, we know that we have everyone has a different story or different needs in
this room. Can you share with us what are your tips for someone that is
younger in age, just getting started what should they be preparing for? (Deborah

                  shares Charity’s slide)

              • Now what about those of us who have been working for 10 or 15 years, has a

family and looking to start investing. What can you share with them that they
can start doing right now that will have improve the quality of their financial
                  well-being? (Deborah shares Michele’s slides)

              • And lastly, what if life took an unexpected turn, you are no longer married, you

may caring for children and parents. What tips would you provide those of us
who are experiencing this? (Deborah shares Sylvia’s slides)

Kim: “Let’s hear from our audience and see if they have a few questions: Ask 10
                                                                                                                 10
              audience for a few questions.
