MODULE OVERVIEW
Welcome to the first of a series of 8 modules of Business Mathematics. This module
is self-paced. This means that you can accomplish it at your convenience, within the period
allocated for it. You are given 12 hours, spread over two weeks to accomplish this module. All
resources are available online. Just click the appropriate link. Should you have any problems
accessing the resources contact your module facilitator immediately. Printed copies are
available on demand. Other than the resources mentioned, you can make use of other
appropriate sources available to you.
Module Outcomes
By the end of module 1 you should be able to:
• Read and write numerical numbers into words and vice-versa.
• Round off numbers.
• Perform the four mathematical fundamental operations guided by the mathematical operation’s
properties involving rational numbers.
• Reduce a fraction to simplest terms.
• Convert percentage to fractions and decimals and vice-versa.
• Find the percentage, rate, or base and solve percentage problems.
Timing and organizing your study
You are given 12 hours, spread over two weeks, to accomplish this module. Follow the
organization of this module and avoid jumping to the subsequent sections without
accomplishing the exercises in the previous one. Watch the videos intently and read the
material several times over before answering the exercise answering the exercises
Study skills
Active listening, reading comprehension, and writing are essential in any course
classes. Moreover, Math requires actively doing. To learn mathematics, you must practice by
doing all your homework and assignments so you may memorize the formulas or internalize
the procedures. It is recommended that you spend significant time on each module unit and
avoid multi-tasking to maintain focus.
Assignments/Assessments
In this module, you will be asked to respond to discussion questions, self-tests
homework, and assignments. Make sure to accomplish all these before submission.
