AIRFIELD improvements
PHL has always been a vital part of the Delaware Valley region. Even in its
early days it had multiple runways, but none were longer than 5,400 feet.
Now, PHL is responsible for over 410,000 takeoffs and landings per year,
which is over 1,100 per day. In order to provide that level of service, PHL has
four major runways, with Runway 9R/27L over 10,500 feet in length. Along
with the major runways, PHL has an extensive pattern of taxiways and
hold pads designed to get planes safely airborne and land with optimal
performance.
