The Meaning of Reality
Essays on Existence and Communion, Eros and History
by Christos Yannaras
This collection of articles traces the thought of Christos Yannaras through his long journey in discovering the meaning of existence, communion, and history. No fewer than twenty articles of passionate significance and substance have at present been gathered together in this volume. Yannaras’ principal resource for unveiling the meaning of existence and communion is the Trinitarian God as the causal princi- ple of existential freedom. Insistence on the primacy, uniqueness, and eternal value of human personality prevails in almost all his works and inspires his own vigorous theological and ecumenical engagement based on the Orthodox Eucharistic and as- cetic tradition. Professor Yannaras – ex- tracting “Orthodox” from its currently fashionable academic and ideological con- text – points out that Orthodoxy must find a way to reach the particular form of soci- ety, which has become entrenched in a cul- ture of individualism. Our faith in the Church’s call to transcend and transform our natural limitations is essential for our path to salvation.

The Presence of Transcendence
Essays on Facing the Other through Holiness, History and Text
by Bogoljub Šijaković
The essays collected in this book venture into various domains of philosophy, such as ontology and epistemology, anthropol- ogy and ethics, philosophy of history and history of philosophy, philosophy of reli- gion and theory of the mystical, poetics and hermeneutics. For this author, philos- ophy and theology should not merely be kinds of specialized fields of expert knowl- edge but therapeutic skills which heal wounds and nurse the diseases of the con- temporary civilization – curing us also at least from amnesia. The traces of the tran- scendent in the immanent are visible as constitutive moments of our existence. A reader browsing through this book by Bo- goljub Šijaković will find in it an atmo- sphere similar to the one awaiting a pil- grim on the Holy Mountain.
