             75 THREE STRAND EYE SPLICE
The Three Strand Eye Splice produces a completely
secure and very strong eye in the end of a three
strand laid rope. By weaving the individual strands
back into the lay of the rope each is held tightly
and the splice is neater than a knot. Unlike a knot,
however, it cannot be readily untied.
Place a twine or tape seizing around the rope a
good distance from the end and unlay the strands
to it. Tape the end of each strand to prevent it
fraying and to make tucking it into the rope easier
(75a). Form an eye of the required size and tuck
the middle strand A under one strand of the rope
at the throat of the required eye (75b). Note that it
is tucked against the direction of the rope’s lay.
This must be done with all of the tucks. Tuck the
second strand B under the next strand round at the
same level (75c), then turn the work over and tuck
the third strand C under the remaining strand at
             the same level (75d).
