Tuck each strand over and under a second time,
working against the lay and tucking each strand
at the same level. Then use each strand to put in a
third tuck (75e). This should be a sufficient number
of tucks, but if the ends of the strands are long
enough, a fourth tuck would not hurt.
Settle the splice by gently rolling it under foot
on a hard surface and giving it a good tug (75f).
The ends of the strands can be cut off close or left
loose. Trimming them short is, of course, neater,
but is best done after a fourth tuck in case they
            slip back.
The strands can be halved before the fourth
tuck to give a tapered finish if preferred, but
beware – nylon will spring apart and be difficult
to tuck as soon as the tape is removed from the
            end of the strand.
