Plagiarism

Here is the dictionary definition of the word plagiarism:

           pla·gia·rism

           /ˈplājəˌrizəm/

           Noun

The practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
                 "There were accusations of plagiarism."
                 synonyms: copying, infringement of copyright, piracy, theft, stealing, poaching, appropriation;
                            informal cribbing
                                   "There were accusations of plagiarism."

If you copy information from a book or other resource and DO NOT footnote it, you are stealing from another
author. You are presenting the author’s work as your own. Any student who knowingly copies from another
person’s work without footnoting (acknowledging ownership) will automatically receive a zero on the paper, and
           more consequences may follow.

Here is what the Student Handbook at AIU says:

                             Academic Dishonesty
Definition: Academic dishonesty is the intentional misrepresentation of all or
part of one’s work to deceive for personal gain or assisting another to do the
same. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism,
fabrication, and submission of work, all or any part of which was developed in
response to the assignment of another teacher or was created by a person other
than the student submitting the assignment. The university community views academic
dishonesty as a serious academic offense and a failure of character and personal integrity. Due
to the academic nature of the offense, the Faculty is responsible for determining an appropriate
response. Repeated violations or a flagrant violation of this policy can result in the student
being permanently removed from the work scholarship program, causing them to forfeit their
ability to continue as a student at the university.

Pretty serious consequence, you think? Why can you be asked to leave the university for copying another
person’s work? Here is what the Bible says…

I Cor. 6:10 …nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of
           God.

Ephesians 4:28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with
their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

Leviticus 19:11 “ ‘Do not steal. “ ‘Do not lie. “ ‘Do not deceive one another.

Prov. 10:2 Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.

Romans 13:7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if
respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
