Bendigo Junior Classic Review
The Under 14 Boys Team 3 kicked of the Bendigo tournament with a closely fought 8
point win over Ballarat's second team. The teams second game was an easier affair
with a 43 point win over the Cobram tigers.
Day two started with a 12 point win over Ararat, and after a long break, a 16 point
win over Bacchus March.
Day three started with the final Pool game where the team was severely undersized
against a large Chelsea team. The team did a great job executing a new game plan
but ultimately going down by 3 points in the end. Luckily this wasn't enough to affect
the teams overall standings, taking out the top spot in our Pool earning a trip to the
quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal saw a rematch against a Maryborough team that previously beat our
team by 1 point in the Grand Final of the Castlemaine tournament. It was a
refreshing change knowing our opponent and the boys again followed a different
game plan and were able to take the win by a commanding 20 points.
The semi-final saw a matchup with a high scoring Rochester team. Being the third
game in a short timeframe (and seventh game overall), the boys were clearly tired,
both physically and mentally. With Rochester shooting well, we found ourselves
down by 13 points throughout the game. The boys dug deep, fought hard and
through some fantastic team play were able to close the gap and take the lead. The
lead continued to change hands for the remainder of the game with the Braves
ultimately losing by a single point.
The boys played hard all weekend, continued to play as a team, and sacrificed their
bodies with some fantastic defense that made all those in their presence extremely
proud of their play.
