George F. Van Hare III, MD, the Louis Larrick Ward Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the David
Goldring Division of Pediatric Cardiology, has been named president of The Heart Rhythm Society.
The first pediatrician to lead the organization in three decades, Van Hare will serve a one-year term as
president and then two years as past-president. Van Hare will be the society’s third president from the
School of Medicine since the organization’s founding in 1979.

Neha Gupta, who was in the eleventh grade at Rockwood Summit High school, was awarded third
place at the St. Louis Science Fair for her poster entitled: “Comparison of Various Phase Algorithms
and Applying Them to Atrial Fibrillation Data Obtained Using Electrocardiographic Imaging." Her mentor
was Dr. Ramya Vijayakumar who is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Dr. Yoram Rudy's laboratory.

Sándor J. Kovács Jr., MD, PhD, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Barnes-Jew-
ish Hospital Medical Staff Association. The award were presented at the association’s semi-annual
general staff meeting, April 13, 2017 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Washington
University Medical Center campus.

                  Daniel S. Ory, MD, Professor of Medicine, Cell Biology and Physiology, and his collaborators found that
                  if macrophages could not synthesize fat from within, the external membranes of those cells could not
                  respond to fat from outside the cells. That prevented the cells from contributing to inflammation.

                  The CardioInsight ECGI system was cleared by the FDA. After 30 years of development and validation
                  in Yoram Rudy's laboratory. He hopes to see ECGI in clinical use in hospitals, helping to treat cardiac
                  patients. The ECGI technology was developed with support from the NIH – National Heart, Lung and
