               hours each week that now become available for learning Torah                        רֶמֹחָו לקַ .תַערַָצְבּ הָשְׁנֶעֶנ דָיִּמ ןֵכ יִפּ לַע ףַאְו ,"דֹאְמ וָנָע
               and  over  the  course  of  a  year  he  can  accumulate  for  himself
               several hundred hours.  Analogously, one may say that the pasuk                     תוֹלוֹדְגּ  רֵבּדְַל  םיִבּרְַמֶּשׁ  ,םיִשְׁפִּטַּה  םיִעָשׁרְָה  םָדָא  יֵנְבִל
               addresses this kind of disciplined person (Mishle 10:27) “One                       קֵחרְַתִהְל ויָחרְָא ןֵוַּכְל הֶצוֹרֶשׁ יִמְל יוּארָ ךְָכיִפְל .תוֹאָלְפִנְו
               who fears Hashem will add days to his life,” and his share is
               praiseworthy.                                                                       תַעְשׁרְִבּ םָדָא שֵׂפָתִּי אלֶֹּשׁ ידְֵכּ ,ןֶהָמִּע רֵבּדְַלִּמוּ ןָתָביִשׁיִמ

               Even though we have said that man should limit his speech as                        ,םיִעָשׁרְָה  םיִצֵלַּה  תַביִשְׁי  ךְרֶֶדּ  הֶזְו  .םָתוּלְכִסְו  םיִעָשׁרְ
               much as possible, nevertheless, if he sees someone who is sad                       'ה  תֶלֶהקֹ(  רַמֱאֶנֶּשׁ  ןָיְנִעְכּ  ,יאַבֲה  ירְֵבדְִבּ  ןיִבּרְַמ  הָלִּחְתִבּ
               or depressed, it is a very great mitzvah to speak to him heart-to-
               heart to relieve him of his anxiety, as Chazal teach in Gemara                      רֵפַּסְל ןיִאָבּ ךְָכּ ךְוֹתִּמוּ ."םירִָבְדּ ברְֹבּ ליִסְכּ לוֹקְו" :)'ב

                                                                                                   הָנְמַלָאֵתּ" :)ט"י א"ל םיִלִּהְתּ( רַמֱאֶנֶּשׁ ןָיְנִעְכּ ,םיקִיִדַּצַּה תוּנְגִבּ
               [ 12 ]  {Sins of the fathers} The statement of the pasuk is well                    הֶיְהִי ךְָכּ ךְוֹתִּמוּ ."קָתָע קיִדַּצ לַע תוֹרְב ּדַֹה רקֶָשׁ יֵתְפִשׂ
               known (Shemot 34:7) “He remembers the sins of fathers onto
               their children and grandchildren for three and four generations.”                   ןָיְנִעְכּ ,םֶהירְֵבדְִבּ יִפ ּדֹ תֵתָלְו םיִאיִבְנַּבּ רֵבּדְַל לֵגּרְֶה ןֶהָל
               The  gemara  questions  this  (Gemara  Sanhedrin  27b),  “But  the                  יֵכֲאְלַמְבּ םיִביִעְלַמ וּיְהִיַּו" :)ז"ט ו"ל ,'ב םיִמָיַּה ירְֵבִדּ( רַמֱאֶנֶּשׁ
               text states (Devarim 24:17) ‘children will not die because of the
               past sins of their fathers.’?”  The gemara resolves this question:                  ךְָכּ  ךְוֹתִּמוּ  ."ויָאִבְנִבּ  םיִעְתְּעַתִּמוּ  וירָָבְדּ  םיִזוֹבוּ  םיקִלֱֹא
               “There (the children are punished) when they emulate the deeds                      םיִכָלְמ( רַמֱאֶנֶּשׁ ןָיְנִעְכּ ,רָקִּעָבּ ןירְִפוֹכְו םיקִלֹאֵבּ רֵבּדְַל ןיִאָבּ
               of their fathers and there (the children will not be punished) when
               they do not emulate the deeds of their fathers.”                                    'ה לַע ןֵכ אלֹ רֶשֲׁא םירִָבְדּ לֵארְָשִׂי יֵנְב וּאְפַּחְיַו" :)'ט ז"י ,'ב

               It is well known that there are very many sins that are dependent                                          ."םֶהיֵהלֱֹא
               on the consequences of one’s speech, as we placed before the                        םָנוֹשְׁלוּ םֶהיִפּ םִיַמָשַּׁב וּתַּשׁ" :)'ט ג"ע םיִלִּהְתּ( רֵמוֹא אוּה ירֲֵהַו
               reader ten different categories of speech that are dependent on
               the power of speech which are constant occurrences.  Without                        םָנוֹשְׁל ?םֶהיִפּ םִיַמָשַּׁבּ תיִשָׁל םֶהָל םרַָגּ יִמ ,"ץרֶָאָבּ ךְַלֲהִתּ
               doubt his fathers and their forefathers and the generations that
                                                                                                   תֶמרֶוֹגֶּשׁ ,םיִעָשׁרְָה תַחיִשׂ איִה וֹז .ץרֶָאָבּ הָלִּחְתּ הָכְלָהֶשׁ
                                                                                                   ,ץרֶָאָה  יֵמַּע  לֶשׁ  תוֹיִּסֵנְכּ  תַביִשׁיִו  ,תוֹנרָקְ  תַביִשְׁי  ןֶהָל
               25.  Quoting  from  the  Chafetz  Chayim’s  Sefer  Shemirat  HaLashon,  Shaar
                  HaZechirah, 11th perek in English translation entitled Mazal Elul: This is       ירֵֵשְׁכּ תַחיִשׂ לָבֲא .רָכֵשׁ יֵתוֹשׁ םִע תוֹאָתְּשִׁמ יֵתָּבּ תַביִשׁיִו
                  one of the mitzvot that earn an ancillary reward for a person in this world
                  while retaining the principal reward for Olam Haba, as is taught in the          שׁוֹדָקַּה ךְָכיִפְלוּ .הָמְכָחְו הרָוֹתּ ירְֵבדְִבּ אָלֶּא הָּניֵא ,לֵארְָשִׂי
                  first perek of Mishnayot Peh’ah.  We can further learn the greatness of
                  this attribute of peace from a statement of Chazal in Gemara Ta’anit (22a)       'ג יִכָאְלַמ( רַמֱאֶנֶּשׁ ,הָּבּ ןָתוֹא הֶכַּזְמוּ ןָדָי לַע רֵזוֹע אוּה ךְוּרָבּ
                  “Rebbe Berokah from the city of Choza’ah was in the marketplace in the
                  city of Lefet.  Eliyahu HaNavi, his memory is a merit for good, appeared         ,עָמְשִׁיַּו 'ה בֵשׁקְַיַּו וּהֵערֵ לֶא שׁיִא 'ה יֵארְִי וּרְבּדְִנ זָא" :)ז"ט
                  to him.  He asked Eliyahu HaNavi “who is here (in this marketplace) that
                  will earn the merit of being in Olam Haba?”  Eliyahu HaNavi answered             דַע ,"וֹמְשׁ יֵבְשֹׁחְלוּ 'ה יֵארְִיְל ויָנָפְל ןוֹרָכִּז רֶפֵס בֵתָכִּיַּו
