PRINCIP AL ’S MESSA GE

Greetings from Lutheran High School East!

It wasn’t that long ago that I’d become concerned every time it rained. My mind would flood with
the knowledge that our aging roofs at Lutheran East were more than a few years beyond their
intended usefulness. For the most part, however, they continued to do the job; except of course for
when they didn’t. It was because of those moments and thanks to our generous supporters that we em-
barked on the long process of replacing the worst of our roofs each summer. That multi-year project
is nearing completion as we replaced three more original roofs last month!

Thanks to the roof project, I’ve had the opportunity to climb up on our various roofs, and it’s from
that high vantage point looking out over our property in Cleveland Heights that I’ve been able to gain
a new perspective. Maybe you’ve had a similar experience of climbing higher to see further and further. When I think about
the Christian life, there’s something special about gaining a higher perspective. In fact, as Christians, shouldn’t one of our goals
be to see things from such a vantage point that it can only be described as heavenly? At those times in my life when I’ve gotten
to see the world with those eyes, I’m always brought back to the most essential ground-level truth that there is: Jesus came to
save! That’s a message we’re humbled to teach our students each day alongside mathematics, science, history, and language arts.

Perspectives change all the time, and my daily view changed again this summer as I moved offices and into a new role as
Principal. My job title and responsibilities have changed a number of times during my first eight years at Lutheran East,
and my office has changed even more than that! Those changes are exciting and I’m looking forward to leading our
school forward on its positive trajectory. More exciting, however, are the things that don’t change: God’s love for us, God’s
faithfulness, and God’s invitation for us to walk faithfully.

With solid roofs above our heads, we’ve made steady progress inside our building as well: fresh paint on the walls, new tile on
classroom floors, upgrades to technology, expanding our weight room, redesigning our locker rooms, and more. Since it’s about
a heavenly perspective, however, those things, important as they are, are servants of a far superior goal―providing a Christ-cen-
tered education for our students who now number 342!

Growth, progress, and success can be measured in a number of different ways. There are big-picture collective goals related to
graduation rates, ACT averages, college placement results―all of which are above local and national averages at Lutheran East.
Those goals also exist on the individual level for each and every student. Simultaneously, it’s about the big picture and about
individual students. It’s about eternity and it’s about living a life of faith. It’s about where we’ve been and where we’re going. It’s
about seeing things from a heavenly vantage point and helping our students here on the ground to take that next step forward
with their education and in their relationship with Jesus.

Lutheran East is an educational ministry with a rich history, a bright future, and to God be the glory!
