Praise be to God for ocean deeps,

For coral reefs and cold sea seeps.

For angler fish with their tentacles long,

They are part of the silent song.

For the nautilus with its chambered shell,

And for lantern fish who give light well.

For canyons cavernous and long,

They too belong to the holy song.

For star fish on the ocean floor

Included are they in this sacred lure.

For viper fish with large, sharp teeth,

Blest and blue in the waters beneath.

For all weird fish that live way down,

With bulbous eyes and perpetual frowns.

For fish that are ugly, strange, beauteous, odd--

They all come from the heart of God.

For the zone of midnight and the great abyss,

Reflective are they of God’s own kiss.

So, praise be to God for the ocean deep.

Its fathoms in my heart I’ll keep.
