I Saw A Mermaid
-Mackenzie Kephart ‘20
One night, after the lifeguards left and the moon was already shining, I
went for a swim in the ocean. I swam deep enough until the water was still
and the temperature was cool. I looked up at
the full moon and instantly felt the magic of
the sea. How nice it was to be alone with the
great blue ocean...well, I thought I was
alone. But then, I looked around and saw
something shiny swimming around me. At
first, I couldn’t tell what it was, but I was
captivated by the effervescent glow it was
producing. Then, all of a sudden, big green eyes were staring at me. They
were the most sparkling and translucent eyes I’ve ever seen. It looked like a
human but much more beautiful. Suddenly, as fast as it had come, it left
me. And there I was, a prune in the ocean, realizing that I had just seen the
most beautiful fish in the world, a mermaid.
