English Language Program

Introduction

SENTRAL College Penang provides Active, Personal and Professional Learning Environment (APPLE) for the students to experience an
ambience of purpose, liberty and friendship to enhance their academic and personal development leading to a sense of
learning fulfillment.

The changing economy attributed to globalization, the internet and the forces of the outside world, demands that we be competent in the
use of the English language to remain relevant and competitive. The English language continues to dominate as a crucial growth engine.
The gauntlet is thrown to everybody in no uncertain terms, especially students today who will be the leaders of tomorrow – ‘cope up or opt
out’. Make this quantum leap forward and catch up with the front-runners, the developed countries by mastering English or be left out
in the cold.

Program Details

The English Language Camp puts the students in a very relaxed atmosphere, where their desire to increase confidence and fluency in the
English language can be heightened through the camp.

Each session is very practical and allows direct application. Topics are selected according to the students’ need and relevance to life’s
challenges. A small class allows effective presentation, role-play and personal attention; it gives the students opportunity to practice
communicating in English encompassing the four components - listening, speaking, reading, writing and also critical thinking.

Program Objectives

• Increase the participants’ awareness of the importance of English in the ever changing and competitive world;
• Improve the students’ fluency of the English language oral, listening, reading and writing skills;
• Help the students’ gain more confidence in using English thus enhancing their communication skills;
• Promote the students’ self-development and enhance their self-esteem

Conclusion

The program deals with the mechanics of usage and attempt to inculcate in the participants the correct language habits. The practical
and direct application is taught through recognition, identification and deduction.

The lecturers use the communicative, interactive and student focused approach observing the 80-20 rule (80% student centered).

The English Language Camp makes every moment in class work for the benefits of the students; believing that teaching is about finding
the easiest process for them, providing them with a relaxing and fun environment to learn. The intensity of the students’ participation in
our dynamic lessons make them think in English; the fast route to fluency. We want them to engage with us not only in class but also
through out of class room activities.
The students are taken out for out-of-class room and weekend activities where they are able to indulge in the rich cultural heritage and
diversity of Penang. Penang, a fascinating fusion of eastern and western influence is Malaysia’s most tourist-visited destination. The island
manages to embrace modernity while retaining its colonial traditions, due to its well-preserved buildings. Penang’s capital George Town
has been accorded a listing as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

These activities break away from the confinement of class room giving the students different scenarios in which they can start practicing
English in real life. We train them to take what they learn with us into their everyday life.

The English Language Camp includes grammar – intensive workshops, speaking sessions and expert coaching from lecturers. By the end
of the boot camp students will be more prepared for the higher expectations of their English language skills.
