Photgraphy has been one of the most rewarding
journeys of my life. What began as a simple childhood interest
in Bandung, Indonesia, gradually grew into a lifelong passion.
Through photography, I have visited many countries, met
FIAP Events reflect the beauty, emotion, and diversity of our world. Receiving Dani Tribe Chief FIAP Events
people from different cultures, and captured moments that
the MFIAP distinction is a great honour for me. It represents not
only years of dedication and learning, but also the friendships,
experiences, and inspiration that photography has brought into
David Somali-Chow
my life.
Outside of my professional career, I have always enjoyed travel, adventure, and photography.
As a certified Master Diver and drone photographer, I have been fortunate to explore and
photograph the world from unique perspectives. These experiences have broadened my
horizons and enriched my photographic journey. I was honoured to have one of my underwater
photographs featured on the cover of FIAP News in May 2025.
In 2010, I began actively participating in national and international photography salons
and exhibitions and became a member of FIAP and PSA due to the encouragement from Ms.
Agatha Bunanta, who currently serves as President of the Federation of Photographic Society
Indonesia (FPSI). Her guidance and support helped me develop my artistic vision and deepen my
understanding of photography.

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that photography is much more than
technical excellence. Good equipment and technical skills are important, but they are only tools.
The true heart of photography lies in observation, patience, empathy, and the ability to recognize
meaningful moments. A memorable photograph is one that communicates emotion and leaves
a lasting impression on the viewer. Photography has taught me to slow down, observe carefully, Lets play archery
and appreciate the beauty and dignity found in everyday life.

Over the years, I have developed a strong interest in many photographic subjects, but Human
Interest and Travel Photography have become my favourite areas of focus. I am especially drawn
to images that tell stories and reveal the emotions, character, and daily lives of people. Through
my photography, I hope to create meaningful connections between viewers and the subjects
while encouraging a deeper appreciation of different cultures, traditions, and ways of life.
A memorable chapter in my photographic journey began in 2010 when my wife and I visited
Wamena, West Papua, with the Hash House Harriers for a jungle run. As one of the few participants
carrying DSLR cameras, I had the opportunity to photograph the local people and their daily lives.
Fourteen years later, in 2024, we returned to Wamena, where I captured additional images for my
MFIAP distinction project.
Just like during our previous visit a local guide introduced us to several villages, where
we were warmly welcomed and given the opportunity to learn about the community’s way of
life. Their willingness to share their traditions and culture allowed me to capture images of a
community that continues to preserve its heritage in a changing world.
After many years behind the camera, I still find great satisfaction in capturing meaningful
moments and sharing stories through photography.
