related to their personal or community needs, rather than contributing
to a waqf that may not have an immediate impact on their daily lives.
There is a difference in the interpretation and understanding of
religious teachings regarding cash waqf among the community. Some
individuals may have a limited understanding of waqf and the true
potential benefits. This will affect the well-being of the community to
contribute. External factors such as the level of economic
development, government policy and the overall economic climate can
also influence the public to participate. For example, during the period
of economic development, there are individuals who are unable to
contribute to charitable causes including waqf.
Although religion is generally considered an important factor that
encourages individuals to contribute to waqf, it is not the only or most
significant predictor of the actual contribution level. Other factors
such as status-economy, education, trust and interpretation of
teachings also play an important role in determining the public's
religious participation in the waqf.
Trust in the institution of waqf can be influenced by several factors
such as stipulations in governance, accountability, and the perceived
impact of waqf in helping to develop socially and economically. When
individuals feel that their contribution to the waqf will be managed
inefficiently and ineffectively and the benefits of waqf will be
distributed unfairly, they can choose not to contribute. Therefore, it is
important for waqf institutions to maintain a high level of transparency
and accountability in their management and to demonstrate the impact
of waqf in supporting social and economic development. This can help
build trust and confidence in the institution of waqf among the public
and promote a higher level of contribution to waqf.
