Activity: Toy making using dough (bones and muscles)
The students were asked to make a toy using chapati dough and were asked to give a name to
their toy. They were asked to play with it like any other doll. They realised that it was not
possible as their doll fell apart. Children had to think of different ways to make their doll
stronger and retain its shape. They came up with an idea of giving support using pencils, sticks
or wire. They tried making dolls with support and were successful. Children were asked to feel
different parts of their body like chin, knee, elbow, knuckles, cheeks, thigh, abdomen etc. They
could compare themselves with the toy they made and they understood that in our body we
have some parts which are hard like pencil and some soft like the dough, giving our body shape
and support. Through this activity, children understood that bones and muscles are internal
organs that gives shape to our body, help us move and also gives support.
