Topic: Soil Erosion and Conservation

Activity: “Know your soils”- Collect three different soil samples from different places, dry it and
make your observations on its colour, particle size and texture. Tabulate your observations with
supportive photographs of your study. Comment on the utility of the soil samples that you have
collected in an A4 sized sheet/chart paper.

This activity helped the students to get a feel of different kinds of soils, know their composition
and texture and also kept them better-informed about the utility of them. The students were
able to associate themselves with the theoretical knowledge on concepts of soil erosion and
ways to conserve the soil, when they studied the composition of their soil samples. Overall, this
activity helped the students to know the importance of soil and appreciate its presence on Earth.
