14th Annual Kids’n Kites Festival

Fair winds and clear skies greeted hundreds of kite flyers at this year's 14th Annual Kids 'n Kites Festival held at Lakehill Prep's Athletic Complex on Ferguson Road on Saturday April 8th this year. Carrollton Host Lion Mark Owens, Plano Early Lion Danny Fletcher, Dallas Oak Cliff Lion Kerry Goodwin and Dallas White Rock Lion Jerry Wolfe, sweated over a hot fire to cook up 500 hot dogs for the children from surrounding schools and their families. A new sponsor this year was Operation Blue Shield, who joined with the Dallas White Rock Lions in providing food for lunch for the kids. Last Saturday April 22 this year on Earth Day the Royce City Lions Club and their sponsor Guaranty Bank & Trust spent 2 1⁄2 hours in a fundraising recycling event in their community. Lions Christine Harvey, Robert Mooney, Kimberley Wheeler, Shirley Frasier and Kim Jordan along with Leos Dylan Caviness, Collin Hallett and Karen Geosits raise over $250.00 by collecting and recycling computers, monitors, office equipment, VCR and DVR players, cell phones, video games, ink and toner cartridges and the list goes on and on. These were working or non- working electronic devices and home equipment, basically items in any condition that could be recycled. Just another way to say “WE SERVE” on earth Day.
