Grass Roots Banquet Saturday April 29, 2017
2-X1 District’s recognition of outstanding and “special lions” (Grass Roots Lions) was begun in 1985
by then District Governor John Eads (Desoto Lions Club). His vision was of a need to acknowledge the “We Serve” attributes and the actions of deserving Lions for their unheralded Lionistic work within their clubs, community and Lionism.
The “Grass Roots Lions Award” is designed to recognize a Club’s “up-and-coming” Lion who has been a Lion for just a few years, but has been exemplary in the spirit of Lionism through deeds and service to others. It is a recognition designed to honor a Lion who has not been so honored by the District.
The Grass Roots Lions Award Program, developed by PCC John Eads, has further evolved into a vital District Recognition program every year.

Lion Minoo Varma
Partner:
Children: Monesha and Sonuh Joined: 2014
Lion Minoo has been a very active member of the club since joining us nearly 2 years ago. She has worked hard and is wonderful to those working and attending our Annual Disc Golf Tournament, Challenge Air Functions, Vision Clinics and WWE Wrestling. She always provides a welcoming smile and friendly demeanor every day. She has already been the Club Lion Tamer and is serving her first of a 2 year term as a Director. Even without the years of experience that others may have, she is an indispensable part of our club today.

Lion Denny Yoakum
Partner: Donna Children: 2 Daughters Joined: March 2016
Lion Denny joined the club in March 2016. In this short year he has been a very active member, immediately taking over a position to sell tickets for our weekly drawing. He has participated in two eye glass clinics, working the whole 5 hours of both clinics. He helped the club last fall during White Cane Day. He is definitely a Lion who is willing to serve.
Coppell Lions Club
Lion Julie Madden
Spouse: Dan Madden Children: Erin and Kelly Joined: 2014
Lion Julie’s favorite phrase is “Let’s do it!” then she says “I’ll do anything you need me to do.” She really means it. From publishing articles on our club activities to organizing refreshments for any number of events to staying to help clean up. She is always there, ready to serve. She pioneered our “Fill the Pantry” program working with local elementary schools to give extra milk and snacks to the Metrocrest Food Pantry thus teaching kids about conservation and giving at the same time. Julie is a true inspiration and an amazing Grass Roots Lion.
