I trust all had a good Thanksgiving Day. The UT Southwestern Transplant Center had the largest Thanksgiving Ceremony every on the 19th. A very moving moment recognizing the families that donated and those who received the gift of life. This is a little touted benefit that we Lions provide to the folks in our area.
Thanks to all the clubs getting their Centennial patches for participating last Lions year. Keep current on reporting your activities so you can get the deserved recognition.
The Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation has big news! After a successful Bowling Tournament, they are ready to unveil the new “Neil Roach Mobile Vision Clinic” at the Garland ISD vision event on December 6th. Thanks also to Essilor Foundation for another donation of new glasses to the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. This represents over a $500,000 donation to our efforts. The recycled glasses you provide and donations like this allow the TLERC to provide glasses to many missions to developing countries. See the current Lions Magazine for such stories.
As we approach the December Holiday season I have all good wishes for a successful season. Best wished for a speedy recovery for District Governor White from his recent surgery.

The Feast of Sharing was again held this year at the Fair Park to celebrate the Thanksgiving with the less fortunate. It was well attended by over 10,000 people. Holiday meal was served and in addition several social services agencies had their booths. Our district was represented well, serving food and doing vision screening and giving away recycled reading glasses to the needy. It made me feel so good, when a lady who was referred last year because of poor eyesight came up to me to thank for the new glasses she was wearing and able to see clearly. Service has its rewards and this is one of them. Thanks to all volunteers who took time off to serve.
In keeping up with the theme “We Serve” there are still over 20 clubs that have not reported any service activity. During the last cabinet meeting the obligations of Charter clubs were discussed. It is important for the club Presidents and officers to familiarize and abide by to fulfill the obligations, such as holding regular meetings, service activities, pay club dues and report MMR and service activities to name a few.
As we approach the end of first half of the year, let us finish the second half strong with an increase in membership and service activities. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
