The theme for 2024, “Striving for Excellence through Hard Work,” has fostered a challenging yet
inspiring atmosphere within the Commerce Department at Nilsen College. The department consists of
three dedicated teachers who have been assigned classes ranging from Year 9 and Year 10
Commercial Studies to Senior Form Accounting and Economics. These enthusiastic teachers have
worked diligently throughout the year to ensure comprehensive curriculum coverage, conduct
examinations, and evaluate student performance. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Arti
Vanadan Sharan (VP) and Mr. Tevita Natokidina for their unwavering support and commitment to the
department. I would also like to express my gratitude to the administration and management for their
ongoing support throughout the year, which has greatly enhanced the teaching experience at Nilsen
College.
The academic year has been akin to a fruit cake, filled with deadlines for curriculum coverage,
examinations, remedial exercises, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments. The
Commerce Department serves as the backbone of our esteemed institution, as the subjects we
teach—Commerce, Economic Analysis, Political Adjustments, and Financial Management—are vital to
the social and economic development of our students and society at large. Beyond imparting
knowledge in commerce, we have also instilled values of responsibility, honesty, perseverance, and
integrity in our students, equipping them to navigate life’s challenges. I commend my fellow teachers
for their relentless efforts in facilitating effective teaching and learning at Nilsen College.
On behalf of the Commerce Department, I wish all staff and students a blessed Christmas and a
joyful, prosperous New Year.
