SOCIAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
(L-R): Ms. S.Kaur, Mrs. T.Rakari, Mrs. M.Ratulevu, Mr. Y. Prasad (HOD)
“Knowledge of social science can empower us to shape a better world”.
The Social Science Department has had an eventful and fulfilling year in 2024, and I am honoured to
have the opportunity to contribute to the sixth edition of the Golden Rock Chronicles. The department
has four dedicated educators who specialize in teaching Social Science, Geography, and History at
different academic levels.
The department has recently observed an increase in the enrolment of students in Social Science
subjects, marking a significant accomplishment for the department. Throughout the year, the
department organized various events like IDADAIT Week, Ratu Sukuna Day, and Fiji Day. During
these events, students demonstrated their skills and took part in dances, artwork, poems, and
speeches to celebrate the occasions.
In the contemporary technological landscape, students pursuing Social Science have access to a wide
array of challenging career opportunities that surpass those available in the past, offering numerous
job prospects. Various roles are available in fields such as education, surveying, geospatial analysis,
computer programming, travel writing, real estate appraisal, and geographic information systems. .
The department has achieved significant advancements through effective teaching methods,
collaborative instruction, peer tutoring, afternoon classes, and Saturday sessions. Below are some
key highlights:
FY12CE: 33% passed Geography and 75% passed History
FY13CE: 100% passed Geography and 50% passed History
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the administrative team for their ongoing support of
our department.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas filled with joy and a prosperous 2025 ahead.
MR. YOGESH PRASAD- HOD SOCIAL SCIENCE
