The Green
The proposed “Green”
provides an opportunity
for a variety of events,
including passive loung-
ing to active recreation-
al activities. The Green,
in conjunction with the
proposed band shell,
also provides a venue
for shows and other en-
tertainment events, such
as “Movies in the Park Night”.
The Green will also be able
to host local events, such as
the Clearwater Jazz Festival,
green markets and art fairs.
The design of the Green will
need to speak to the pro-
grammed/desired uses. The
natural topography of the site
could be accentuated to create a
natural “stadium seating”, helping
to de ne the space and accen-
tuate views of the water and the
band shell. Custom curved seat-
ing could be designed into the
ground plane to provide seating
along with LED lighting to create
a dynamic element to the space.
WGI’s civil engineers will work with
our landscape architects to provide a design that ows with the landscape. Electric and water facilities will also be provided in strategic areas to accom- modate vendors. Our MEP engineers will work with our designers to provide innovative solutions that allow the facilities to be accessible for vendors while ensuring they are not a hazard, and that they are protected from vandalism.
Civic Gateway
The Civic Gateway will be the rst impression of the park from the downtown area, a true gateway to the park. Providing a design and aesthetic that functions on multiple levels is es- sential in drawing users into the space. Provid- ing kinetic elements, such as water sculp- tures and interactive fountains, will encour- age visitors into the park and energize the area. As the gateway entrance, the design of this area sets the tone for the park, both in form and function. The
design of the pavilion and welcome center should be open and inviting, allow- ing the light to invigorate the spaces and take advantage of the water views. The pavilion should provide sculptural shade structures that are dynamic and encourage outdoor seating. The natural topography of the site should be uti- lized to create a sense of arrival to the park, and provide an elevated view of the park and water. Providing sel e spots in this location for visitors to capture views of the park and water will help spread the image of the park across social media. Modern way nding signage should be provided to direct visitors to all the elements in the park and provide an additional layer of branding for the park. During the planning of the Civic Gateway, pedestrian access on and o site, as well as availability of parking, will need to be considered for large events programmed for this space, such as the Pierce Street Market.
