The Estuary
The Estuary provides an opportunity to cre- ate a unique element within the park that provides an aesthetic asset as well as a functional stormwater facility. Surface water could be captured throughout the site and directed to this location, where it would then be ltered through a natural ltration system. The ecosystem that would be created would encourage a wide variety of birds and animals to utilize the facility. Boardwalks throughout the Estuary would allow visitors to immerse themselves in the unique ecosystem. Educa- tional signage could be provided to instruct visitors on the function of this stormwater facility as well as the ecosystem that was created. WGI’s landscape architecture team lead, Cheryl Callender is one of only a few SITES accredited professionals in the state. The Sustainable SITES Initiative provides a framework for developing sustainable land- scapes. Cheryl will lead the landscape archi- tecture and environmental team in utilizing the SITES guidelines in creating the Estuary as well as the remainder of the park. WGI will also assist the City in obtaining SITES Certi - cation for the project, if so desired.
