                                      Hospice

                              Hospice is compassionate, comfort-
oriented care for those with advanced
                                illness

 Emphasis is on pain management,
                                symptom control and emotional support
                                for the patient and family

                              Hospice improves physical and
                                psychological symptoms of patients

 Hospice care focuses on improving a
patient’s quality of life, and can give
patients and families a feeling of control

                                      Hospice: Dispelling the Myths

 Hospice is not a place, it’s a service that can be
delivered in the patient’s home or wherever best
suited to meet the patient’s needs. It reduces the
chance of ER visit or re-hospitalization.

 There is no time limit as long as a doctor recertifies
                                    the patient periodically

 Patients can keep their regular doctor, or have the
                                    hospice physician manage their care

 Life expectancy is sometimes better for patients who
                                    enroll in hospice
