SUTURES CONT..

 Cut exposed suture on the
opposite side of the knot

 Still holding the knot, pull the
cut suture up and out.
• Discard suture on the paper
towel.
**IF GAPING OCCURS, DO NOT
REMOVE ANY OF THE REMAINING
SUTURES. CALL THE MD.
 If no gaping, remove every
other suture along the incision
line

SUTURES CONT..

• Apply Butterfly strips to
close the gap.
• Alert patient’s physician.
• If no gaping occurs,
continue removal until all
sutures have been
removed.

• Count the sutures removed.
• Discard sutures in an
impervious trash bag.
