HDL sucks up excess cholesterol
and brings it back to the liver to be
used as bile or recycled.
HDL also comprises an antioxidant
that neutralizes lipoproteins related
with heart disease.
People with higher HDL levels are
less prone to heart attacks. Diets
should strive to lower LDL levels
without lowering HDL levels.
HDL levels are increased through
exercise and decreased through
poor eating habits, obesity, and
smoking.
