P. 5
Cholesterol is a lipid sterol. In other words,
it’s a fat that’s capable of making
hormones.
About eighty percent of cholesterol is
produced ‘in-house’. That’s right; it’s
manufactured in each of our bodies by our
very own livers.
It travels though our bodies using our
bloodstream as a conduit.
However, cholesterol isn’t soluble in liquids
like blood, so it must first be converted
from an oil-based lipid into tiny protein-
covered particles, called lipoproteins.
The lipoproteins behave like transport
molecules enabling cholesterol to enter
the bloodstream.
