As a result, the moon cannot




      reflect the Sun’s light.  Thus a



      lunar eclipse occurs only during



      a full moon, when the Earth




      blocks the Sun’s light from



      reaching the moon.








      Because the Earth is much



      bigger than the moon, and very




      close to it, the Earth’s shadow is



      big enough to completely block




      out the Sun.
