be increased by bringing foreign
companies. Railroads, highways,
and sea ports could be built if the
country’s economy would increase.
A railroad that extended from the
port of Puerto Barrios to the capital
was being built, until the internal
coffee trade collapsed. There was
no money to build the remaining 60
miles of the railroad and decided to
exempt the United Food Company
from taxes if they would build the
remaining railroad.
