In 1858 two men, Johann Benedict Listing
and August Ferdinand Mobius,
independently yet simultaneously
discovered the Mobius strip.
It is Mobius, however, who is largely
credited with the discovery.
The Mobius strip is essentially a twisted
loop or twisted cylinder that, today, is
used in a variety of real world
applications.
If an ordinary rubber band is cut to form
one long strip, then twisted and
reattached at either end, it would be
representative of the Mobius strip.
