When the markets opened

again on Monday, they began

to collapse quickly. It seems

that media coverage had merely

drawn attention to the risk

factor as far as investors were

concerned. Panic selling began,

and by closing bell, October 28,

the markets had shed another 13

percent. That was Black Monday,

1929.
