Melanin pigment is found in just
about every creature, small or big.
It is found in creepy crawlers, furry
animals, and humans.
In humans, melanin pigment cells
are prevalent in the basal layer of
the epidermis. The epidermis is the
most exposed layer of cells
comprising the skin.
However, melanin is also found in
hair, the iris, and in other locations
of the body. Research has indicated
that melanin pigment contributes to
different skin tones in humans.
