the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854.
This act allowed all new territories
to use slavery. Pro-slavery and anti-
slavery groups fought against each
other because of this act known as
Bleeding Kansas. In the meantime,
the North formed the Republican
party because they were against any
kind of slavery. They believed that
slavery should not be spread into the
western territories. Later on, Lincoln
was elected as president in November
