Many countries have stories
a nd le g ends t h a t in v o lv e
mermaids. There are some tales
that depict the mermaids as beautiful
and playful creatures who live in the
oceans and seas. While others show
them to be evil and mischievous and
sometimes terrifying in appearance.
These types of mermaids lay
in wait, wanting to do nothing
more than cause grief and trouble
to poor sailors. In Jamaica, there is
the ledged of the River Mumma.
