The impending depression became

apparent when the crisis hit Wall Street

on October 29, 1929, commonly called

        Black Tuesday.

        Companies began asking investors to

pay back the money they had

borrowed and, failing to have it,

investors began selling their stocks to

        raise it.

This, in turn, drove the price of stocks

        down until it plummeted.

As stocks crumbled, the financial crisis

        grew in momentum.
