Gratification, or relief,
is immediately realized once
the tic is carried out.
In fact, patients have described
unusual localized sensations in
the area where the tic manifests
itself, which triggers the tic.
For instance,
if the tic is to clear one’s throat,
then the patient might
experience a tickle in
the throat triggering the urge
to respond by clearing
his or her throat.
