As they traveled from the south to the
north, the current carried them easily on
the Nile. And when they used oars, they
were able to move faster and with more
ease.
Going from the north to the south was
more difficult because they were moving
against the current and wind.
Even using oars didn’t make it any easier.
So, one smart and skillful mannoticed the
movement of the wind, and came up with
several ways to use it to their advantage.
He decided that the best way was to
attach a piece of cloth to catch the wind.
Trying various types of cloths, he cut them
up into different shapes and finally
decided to use linen to create a square sail.
