There were also many different kinds of
birds and wild vegetables that grew along
the banks of the Nile.
Another very important plant which grew
in abundance along the banks of the river
were reeds, known as papyrus. Reeds
grew to almost 10ft (3m) tall and were
used to make various household items that
the Egyptians used in their everyday life.
Some of the things made with reeds were
paper, pens, mats, perfume, blankets,
medicine, clothes, sandals, baskets, even
chairs and tables.
Trading and transportation were also very
important to the Egyptians and they used
the Nile to accomplish this.
