IMPLEMENTATION OF
     PROJECT

Objectives 1. To spread the know-how of extraction using ultrasonic-assisted technology to increase yield and
expedite extraction process of high quality herbs namely Eurycoma longifolia, Labisia pumila and
                             Ficus deltoidea.
                           2. To apply new knowledge on extraction using ultrasonic-assisted method in extraction of local herbs.
                           3. To increase economic growth through application of the proposed technology.

Methodology 1. Water heated using heater.
                           2. Raw materials ( Eurycoma longifolia, Labisia pumila and Ficus deltoidea) were weighed using weight
                             scale.
                           3. Extraction chamber activated.
                           4. Data were recorded every hour for the whole 4 hours extraction process.
                           5. Upon extraction, extraction chamber were deactivated.
                           6. Concentration chamber were activated upon extraction process.
                           7. Concentration chamber were deactivated upon completion of concentration process and data on
final concentration of each materials were recorded.
Activities 1. Phase 1 – Spread of know-how on optimisation of ultrasonic sonication regime (e.g. frequency, power,
Conducted process cycles, intensity) and standardisation of increase in output on extraction of Eurycoma
longifolia, Labisia pumila and Ficus deltoidea.
                           2. Phase 2 - Applying usage of new knowledge on ultrasonic-assisted method extraction for extraction
                             of local herbs.
                           3. Phase 3 - Increase economic growth through application of the proposed technology and
                           4. Phase 4 – End of project (submission of report and research paper).
          Output
Industry 1. Staff of TPM Biotech Sdn Bhd from both Bukit Jalil and Raub has undergone training on the technology,
technicalities and operationalisation for implementation in the company.
                           2. Staff of Raub will provide experienced workforce in general extraction process throughout
attachment of UMP’s staff at Raub’s production line.
                                                                                                                 02
                           3. Graduate interns appointed under this grant will facilitate in the transfer of ultrasonic methodology to 24
                             the industry.

                           1. Development of academic staff for professional accreditationl.
          Public Higher 2. Publication.
          Learning Institute 3. Industrial collaboration.
Human Capital 1. Graduate interns of the project managed to secure job within 6 months upon graduation.
Development 2. Two graduate interns secured job in Universiti Kuala Lumpur and processing industry, respectively,
                             upon graduation.

     PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

     1. TPM requested for additional fund allocation for equipment and workforce needed in their premise.

     2. The readily available portable extraction machine need to be repaired and upgraded to enable it to process samples
         which are smaller in size.

     3. Limited area for installation of equipment.
