5.4.5. ARANYA [Pune]

A Spatial Decision Support System for Forest Management , 'Aranya' facilitates the
decision making in different domains of forestry, including protection, monitoring,
management, research and planning, where each module broadly correspond to
administrative working section of the forest departments in India, such as Territorial,
Working Plan, Biodiversity, Wildlife, Research, Carbon calculator etc. It also has provision
to carry out carbon pool inventory and land allocation planning for rehabilitation.

The software will assist the field managers to store global positioning system (GPS)-
recorded data to help them take care of the queries related to habitat suitability analysis
among others. The tool can help in taking well-informed decisions on territorial forestry,
joint forest management and social forestry, wildlife and bio-diversity as well as village
development plan.
