Diagonal lashing
A square lashing is all very well, but if the poles
are crossing at different angles, a diagonal lashing
will be more suitable. Use it whenever you need to
brace a structure with a couple of diagonal poles –
be it a wicker chair or a boat cover. An alternative
method to this knot is shown here.
1 Tie the poles together with a timber hitch and pull them together hard.
