               Footrope knot




               ‘First  a  crown,  then  a  wall.  Tuck  up,  and  that’s


               all.’ This is the well-known mnemonic from Captain
               Charles  W  Smith,  for  learning  the  footrope  knot.


               Similar  in  structure  to  the  diamond  knot,  the  end
               result  is  rather  more  handsome  and  less  liable  to

               wear.  It  can  be  doubled  by  tucking  the  strands  a

               second time above the first set.
























                    1  Prepare the line as before (Step 1), or tie four lengths of thin line


                  together with a whipping and a seizing, as shown. The same principles

                                               apply for three strands.
