               Blackwall hitch




               A good ‘hook hitch’ is characteristically quick and


               easy to tie, able to hold a substantial load securely,
               and should ‘spill’, or come undone, once the load is


               released, without any additional effort. The blackwall
               hitch scores on the first and last points, but is only

               secure if the rope used is thick enough to fill the jaw

               of the hook.
