Double cat’s paw

Loops are commonly used for lifting heavy

objects, and can be simply hitched onto a hook for
lifting. Alternatively, a double cat’s paw can be put

into the bight to ensure the line doesn’t slide off the
hook. The knot’s main credentials are that it won’t

slip or jam – both key characteristics for any hook

hitch.

1 Attach the sling to the cargo using a suitable hitch (a girth hitch will do

the trick, see).
