               Monkey’s fist

Often imitated but never equalled, the monkey’s

fist is the ultimate heaving line knot and has been
used as such since at least 1889. Traditionally, a ball

bearing, wooden ball or marble was inserted into the
middle to give the knot extra weight and help it on

               its way.

1 Put three loops into the end of the line. It might help to use your hand

                                                or fingers as a ‘former’.
