               Monkey’s paw




               The monkey’s paw is a new name for an old knot,


               and  is  nothing  more  than  a  monkey’s  fist  with  the
               end tied to the standing part. You can use a bowline


               to do this or, if you’re using three-strand rope, you
               can finish off with a soft eye splice.





























                1  Tie the monkey’s fist as shown opposite. Seize the line about 6in (15cm)


                                    from the end, and tease the strands apart.
