Bowline
‘Known as the ‘King of Knots’, the bowline has
been the sailor’s indisputable loop of choice for over
500 years. Secure, strong and easy to untie, it had
everything going for it… until the introduction of
modern ropes, which can be so slippery that even
the mighty bowline struggles to hang on to them.’
1 Put an overhand loop near the end of the line. (Using the rabbit-
around-the-tree analogy, this is the rabbit hole and the standing part is
the tree.)
