Chain stitch lashing
A fancy method of stowing a sail on a boat or a
rolled-up carpet on land is the chain stitch lashing –
similar to the method used to seal some parcels.
One pull of the end, and the whole thing comes
undone like a zip. Try tying it on your umbrella to
impress the neighbours!
1 Secure one end of the line, using a timber hitch or similar. Take a turn
around the sail and tuck a bight under the standing part.
